Finally. The awards season is over with the 87th Academy Awards or also known as The Oscars. A friend of mine said that the Oscars this year is a very predictable one. But, it turns out that it doesn't. Birdman won the Best Picture award which is the top prize. A lot of people (including me) predicted Boyhood to win because of the Golden Globes, Critic's Choice and the BAFTAs. But, it looks like Best Picture winners mostly depends on the winner of the PGA Awards in which Birdman also claimed the top prize. I love both of those films equally and they are both great and innovate films. But, I predicted Boyhood since they already swept a lot of top prizes. I'm very happy about Birdman's win even though I didn't predicted it. It's a movie that I love and like and I recommend you all to watch the movie. It's a one-of-a-kind film that no one should miss. Besides the top prize, Birdman also surprised us when they claimed the Best Director award. Richard Linklater swept all the pre-requisite awards shows but, with the help of the DGA Awards, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu won but I'm also happy with that because I also love his direction of the film which is also mind blowing like Richard Linklater. For the Best Actor category, I somehow failed to predict Eddie Redmayne's win. I was hoping for Michael Keaton to win because I love his performance on Birdman. I also love Redmayne's performance on The Theory of Everything but I prefer Keaton because of his charisma and how he was able to portray the role without a real life figure to look on. For the other acting categories, I correctly predicted them with the winnings of Julianne Moore, J.K. Simmons and Patricia Arquette. Birdman and The Grand Budapest Hotel each earned four trophies at the end of the night and also the highest earned awards by the end of the night. Whiplash earned three trophies which was a surprise but they also deserved it. I will not make a reaction one by one because I really love them all and they all deserved it. There is no doubt for that.
Now, let's talk about the ceremony itself. Neil Patrick Harris was good as the host because he of his talent in entertaining other people. But, it is not as memorable as last year because there are no "selfie"-like moments. The only highlight there is Harris' prediction about the Oscars ceremony itself. It was mind blowing but still not as memorable as Ellen DeGeneres last year. But, I would love to see him hosting another Oscars ceremony with another good musical numbers. I noticed that Patricia Arquette is not a type of person who speaks from the heart. Like the previous awards show where she won, she also has a speech on her paper or a cheat sheet. I mean it would be better if she just said her speech from the heart so that her winning makes sense. This awards season is going to be memorable as an actress from Medium reads speeches when she wins something. In the Original Song nominees performances, they were all great but I was not satisfied in the performance of "Lost Stars" by Adam Levine. It was good but he lacks on giving the essence of the song and to prove why the song is nominated. The performance of "Glory" was a highlight. It was excellent mainly because of the background and props. For the In Memoriam section, I also noticed the absence of Joan Rivers but we have nothing to do with it. Also, I love Lady Gaga's performance and she belt those The Sound of Music songs good. My favorite part is the surprise appearance of Dame Julie Andrews. It was a great moment. Anyway, I'm going to stop my review here because I'm a bit sleepy while writing this article. Over-all, I like the ceremony and 'till the next Oscars!
