The Latest Around Hollywood

This is one of my blog posts in which I have no certain topic to talk about so please bear with me on all random things that you might encounter while reading this article. Anyway, The Interview, despite showing in only 331 theaters across the US, has earned $1 million dollars during its first day. Well, that is good news and I'm not surprised about it because of the controversy that surrounds the movie for the past two weeks. At the same time, North Korea has officially released a statement regarding the movie and they accused the US government and President Obama as the one who pushed the movie to be released and they called Obama "a monkey'. To be fair, Obama said that pulling the movie is a mistake last week but it doesn't mean that the US government is behind the decision of releasing the movie again. All movies in the US are not controlled by the government and they are all produced via the First Amendment. North Korea is so stupid that they blame the government for it. Of course, there is no freedom of speech in North Korea and everything is controlled by the government so they assumed that the US government did the movie. North Korea just wants to blame the US for everything. Also, I have downloaded the movie and I'm scheduled to watch the movie when I have free time before New Year's Day. I have scanned the movie and it looks like it is going to be a good movie and North Korea made fun of US at the beginning of the movie. I might make a movie review about it in this blog so watch out for that. Anyway, let us all enjoy and be positive about The Interview because it is patriotic for Americans to watch the movie and also to the rest of the world.

Anyway, in television news, Oscar nominee and BAFTA winner Barkhad Abdi (known for his role of Abduwali Muse in Captain Phillips) will guest star on the hit CBS series Hawaii Five-0. It is a great and exciting news even though I don't watch the show. I've been watching Barkhad Abdi since the Oscars as I want to know the future of his career after his breakout role. He has two upcoming films: a comedy film directed by Judd Apatow and an action film starring Helen Mirren and Aaron Paul. He has supporting role in both movies and it looks like he has important role in those films. Hawaii Five-0 will be Abdi's television debut and he will play a former African warlord who is hiding somewhere in the island of Hawaii as a taxi driver. I would love to see that episode. I'm sure that Abdi would be just fine. The last news from Hollywood that I'm going to talk about is the banning of the Ridley Scott film Exodus: Gods and Kings. The movie received negative reviews and it has a possibility to become a box office flop as it hasn't recoup its budget yet. The movie is banned in Egypt and Morocco due to its historical inaccuracies and a possibility to be banned also in several Middle Eastern countries due to similar reasons. I have no plans to watch the movie because it doesn't look promising and it is too 21st century and action packed that it's not as good as Gladiator but as horrible as those Michael Bay films. Also, it is directed by Ridley Scott and he should have made it better (By the way, Gladiator was also directed by Ridley Scott). Anyway, I don't care about the banning of the movie anymore because I'm not interested to watch it anyway and I'm just going to focus on The Interview which I think is way better.

What Happened Today?

In a unique moment, I made a dessert. I don't why did I think to make a dessert but all I remember is because it has easy ingredients. So, I made Oreo balls (which is the picture above). I was able to buy the ingredients and I was able to make it. The problem is that it turns out to be a failure. It didn't work. I mean the marshmallow cannot stick with the mixture of condensed milk and crumbled Oreo biscuits. It won't stick so it was such a failure then I found out why. It is because I put too much condensed milk. Now, it's a lesson that I learned. Next time, I'm going to put enough condensed milk so that I will be able to make it properly. It's my first time to do it and it's an experiment so I really expect failures. If you want my Oreo balls, it is not available for orders because it was a disaster but you could try it if you'll go to my place. But, I'm not encouraging you all to try it because it's a failure that I'm disappointed. Anyway, a lot of Americans already watched the movie The Interview and they said that watching the movie is a patriotic way to do so that is the reason that they are watching the movie and it is sold out in most cinemas where the movie was released. There are good reactions from the audience that make me want to watch the movie. Also, it is available in torrent so I might download and watch it in a few days. As a person who has a privilege of freedom of speech since I'm a resident of a democratic country, I have a right to watch the movie whether Kim Jong-un forces me to not watch the movie or not.

I don't know if I already shared in this blog about my massive collection of movie novelization books. I'm not really sure if I told about it. In case that I haven't shared about it yet, here it goes. One of my life ambitions is to have my own library inside my house or possibly in my own bedroom. I already have that ambition but the problem is that I have too many books that a single shelf cannot store all of those books. So far, I have more than 525 books. I love reading. It's like my playground ever since i started my interest in reading. In all the books that I have time, about half of it are movie novelization books. Those are the novel books that are adapted from several feature films like Transformers, Kung Fu Panda and many more. I started to collect way back when I was in grade school. I fell in love with Hollywood movies so I also fell in love with movie novelization books at the same time. That is why I started. It's like you are reading a movie. It's an amazing collection. You get to own the story of the films although they are not in video or script forms but they are all official novelization books of those movies. My oldest novelization book in my collection is the 1959 film The Shaggy Dog. My most recent one is Penguins of Madagascar. So, if you imagine, the range of my collection is from 1959 to 2014. Millions of films have been produced between those times and I have the novelization of hundreds of those films between. If you are thinking about it properly, it's an interesting collection. Anyway, I wish that I could show all my collections in just one picture or one website but I can't because there are too much of them.

A Very Michael Christmas

It's finally Christmas and a lot of people in America right now are planning to watch The Interview this day which is expected to rule the specialty box office. Also, some people might have already seen the movie via video on-demand so it means that it could be available in torrent right now. Anyway, Christmas is not about a Seth Rogen film so I'm going to stop talking about the movie. Christmas is finally here which is the day that we have been waiting for since Christmas 2013. We are excited every time when it's Christmas because of the presents, traditions, caroling, discounts, sales and bonuses on your salary. Also, another thing about Christmas are the office and school parties which is the day when everybody could have fun instead of making paper works or writing notes about mitosis and meiosis. Christmas is my favorite season. It is because it is the time where I could request some things that I want. During our Christmas gift opening session, I received some wonderful gifts like a jacket, pants, an Amy Poehler book, magazines and Windows 8 desktop computer (although I already "opened" it four days before). I mean it is the time where I should expect to have something and also give something at the same time. You have some stuffs that you got from your family and friends without telling them because it's Christmas. I know that Christmas is the time where Jesus Christ was born (even though there are no indications that December 25 is the actual date of the birth of Jesus but they people from the past assumed it because it was the beginning of winter during his birth). Anyway, whatever conflicts about the exact date of Christmas, we have a day where we should celebrate it and also the day where we could receive presents.

During Christmas season, each houses are decorated with Christmas theme like colorful Christmas lights, Santa Claus, reindeer, snowman and a nativity scene. It is important for every family to decorate each houses with Christmas stuffs because it's like a decoration to a birthday party of Jesus and also because it is where we are naturally enlightening ourselves and reflecting about what we have done for the past year. I believe that Christmas decorations are reflections of each houses. If a house has a wonderful Christmas decoration, it means that they are positive about Christmas and they feel the spirit of Christmas. If a house has a few or no Christmas decorations, it means that they are somehow not realizing the spirit of Christmas and do not actually feel celebrating it. I have a friend who is an atheist. He still celebrates Christmas because of the presents and the respect that he will earn. But, he told me that they have no Christmas decorations at all because his family are too busy. He wants Christmas decorations but it is really sad to think that he might have lost the spirit of Christmas and I think that he already lost it. He doesn't do the traditional Christmas celebration. I just feel sad for him but my advise is that he should celebrate the Christmas that he wants when he grows up. Anyway, this is the end of discussion about Christmas and I hope that everyone is enjoying celebrating the Christmas season. Also, I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas!

Have Yourself a Very Little Merry Christmas Bonanza

First of all, before I start talking about Christmas, I want to say that I'm very happy about Sony's decision to release The Interview again in selected cinemas. It is great that Sony has decided to release it again after pressure from the public and the media. Sony's decision means that freedom was prevailed and we won against the hackers. The hackers or the North Korean government has not commented about the issue so far. Sony's decision comes when a lot of independent theaters are interested to release the film. According to Deadline, more than three hundred theaters across the U.S. will screen the movie this coming Christmas Day. Anyway, let's go back to what should be the topic for today. Today is Christmas Eve. It's the day before Christmas and the day in which people are standing in line for hours just to pay the gifts that they bought at the cashier. Each stores are crowded especially if those stores are offering sales and discounts. The groceries are also crowded because of the so-called noche buena tradition. In some countries, the kids are in line to sit on Santa Claus' lap and say some things about their nice things that they've done for the past year and all the gifts and the wishes that they want like a toy car or peace in the Middle East. A kid might even wish for the return of The Interview in which it is now been granted by Sony. Some families have the tradition of watching Christmas movies during this time. Religious families will go to their respective church and pray for peace in the Middle East and to thank for all the blessings that God gave to us. Each of us has our own Christmas tradition that is the result of the culture that we've grown. Since I grew up in a culture that teaches us that Jesus Christ is the symbol of Christmas, most of our Christmas traditions are very related to Jesus and we do things that will make Jesus happy.

I'm not going to make this article very long since I'm only going to make commentaries about Christmas. I'm not going to do a Merry Christmas article greeting yet because it the Eve and tomorrow is the actual Christmas day. If you are asking me about how is my Christmas preparation, my answer is that everything is good because I'm done with the presents. I already bought all the gifts last week because I don't want to join the Christmas shopping rush like what the rest of us will do. I'm not a kind of person who will wait in line for hours just to pay. I'm a kind of person who will wait in line for hours just to get some free stuffs and accessories or sales of a certain store. Every Christmas tradition never gets old because it is what we usually do during this season. Most of the songs that radio stations or music video channels will play are Christmas songs and most of them are modern cover like Miley Cyrus doing "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" or Ashley Tisdale doing "Last Christmas". But, whatever songs it is, the Christmas spirit is still there and all of us love songs. Nobody hates music. Christmas songs are the universal language in times of Christmas. Anyway, I have to end this article because I have to do some Christmas related stuffs since it's eve and I'm feeling the excitement of Christmas because of the presents that I need to open. I hope that most of them are good and interesting.

The Christmas Comeback

As I promise, I'm back! It's currently my Christmas break at school so it means that I will be able to post new articles again here in this blog. But, this stint of writing will be good for two weeks only as my Christmas break is within two weeks only so this is like a limited engagement blog writing. I'm going to post here only until January 4, 2015. Then, after January 4, I'm going to be in hiatus again until March 2015 (tentative date). But, in short, I'm back on writing in this blog daily again for a limited time until January 4 so be happy for that. During my hiatus, a lot of things happened in Hollywood. Some of them are good news while some of them are bad news. For good news, I'm talking about the exciting first trailer of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the return of The Comeback. For bad news, well, I'm talking about the Sony hacking and The Interview controversy that is trending all over Hollywood and even The White House. Anyway, tomorrow, I'm going to post an article about my rants about the Sony controversy especially my thoughts about cancelling the theatrical release of The Interview. Since the controversy started, I really wanted to write an article about it because the issue angered me so much that I'm tweeting a lot about the controversy. For me, freedom of speech is important and no one should interfere about it and I'm also mad that Sony decided to cancel the release of the movie because it just shows that we are coward and we let the hackers win. Now, the hackers are impressed and happy about what Sony did. North Korea, you made a mistake and the world will fight back against you. Anyway, just wait for my article tomorrow to see the rest of my thoughts about the issue.

Some of you might also be familiar about the Facebook page that I made which is "Michael's Hollywood Zone". It currently has a modest number of likes and there are even few strangers that I didn't know personally who liked my page. So, if you have a non-spammed Facebook account, please like my page so that you will be updated on what is happening around Hollywood and learn a lot about my pop culture expertise. It's like my textbook about pop culture but it's more digital and user-friendly since all people are into digital and social media. Another exciting thing is that Christmas is coming. That is the time when we celebrate the birth of Jesus and the sleigh of Santa Claus. I don't know if a lot of kids still believe on Santa Claus but he is real if you think lovely thoughts (that's a Peter Pan Live! reference right there). Since when I was young, I'm familiar about Santa Claus but I didn't even mind to believe on him because I grew up on a culture in which Jesus Christ is the importance of Christmas and not Santa Claus. But, I adore that a figure like Santa Claus will lighten up the spirit of Christmas of every kids. Since this is just my comeback post, I'm not going to write an article about Christmas because it's not yet the day of Christmas. Another happenings during my hiatus is the live airing of Peter Pan Live! starring Allison Williams, Christian Borle, Kelli O'Hara, Taylor Louderman, Minnie Driver and Christopher Walken. Since I actually watched the live telecast, I was able to live tweet about it. Some of them are positive and some of them are rants about Christopher Walken and the crocodile. But, that musical has massive effect on my musical mind. I'm starting to actually like the songs in the musical like "I Won't Grow Up", "Hook's Waltz", "I Gotta Crow" and "I'm Flying". I mean all of those songs are great. You should listen to them. It made me imagine myself as Peter Pan or Captain Hook or both like what Christian Borle did when he played both Smee and Mr. Darling.

Thank you all for your patience during my hiatus and I hope that you were able to read my archive as you can find a lot of good articles that I wrote (even though some of them are just copy and paste). This is the official start of my two week limited engagement blogging while I'm on Christmas break. I'm now posting again in this blog daily (although there might be days that I will not write due to my busy doings). But, even though I didn't post an article during my hiatus, I'm still posting/updating in my autograph collection website since it is only active if I received an autograph from a celebrity. Once again, Merry Christmas to all and let's celebrate my comeback and officially begin my two week limited engagement blogging.
