21st Screen Actors Guild Awards - My Reaction

The SAG Awards is I think the only awards show that doesn't have any emcee. Instead, they have an announcer who will say if who is the next presenter. I don't why but maybe it's because of the "SAG" rule thingy that Ken Howard doesn't want to talk about. The 21st SAG Awards ended with a bang. There are surprises especially in television but let's talk about the film first since it's the center of the awards season. As expected, Birdman won the Best Cast Ensemble. I'm not surprised. Boyhood is the frontrunner at the Oscars but Birdman is the frontrunner when it comes to the cast since Boyhood has only four main cast members while the latter has seven cast members who are really involved in every step of the story of the film. Then, another win that I expected is the winning of Julianne Moore, J.K. Simmons and Patricia Arquette in their respective categories. For the whole awards season, they are the focus of Best Actress, Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress. If they win the BAFTA, their chance to win an Oscar will be a hundred percent and they might earn the rare achievement of winning a Golden Globe, Critics' Choice, SAG, BAFTA and Oscar. I'm really happy that those three amazing actors won. But, the surprise in the film category comes to Eddie Redmayne. Me and most of the awards season experts predict Michael Keaton but Redmayne turned out to be the winner. It was a surprise. Also, take not that winning a SAG Best Actor could lead to an Oscar Best Actor win since a lot of SAG Best Actors from the past also won an Oscar. Because of Redmayne's surprise win, I'm officially starting a fierce and heating competition between Keaton and Redmayne for the Oscars Best Actor. They are both great in their respective films but only one could win an Oscar for Best Actor. A tie between them will be very unlikely since an tie in an acting category only happened once during the 87 years of Oscars history. Since the BAFTA is likely to vote for Redmayne on the Best Actor category next month, it is going to be an intense Best Actor showdown at the Oscars.

For television, if you compare the list of winners and prediction, only two of them matched and the rest are my failed predictions. Once again, Downton Abbey won for Best Drama Ensemble. This is their second upset since they are not expected to win. Meanwhile, Orange is the New Black won for Best Comedy Ensemble in which I predicted it because of the support that the Hollywood industry has given for the show. There are like more than 30 cast members credited on the ensemble so I think that the SAG made a lot of trophies for this year. But, they deserved it. Kevin Spacey surprised us with his Best Drama Actor win since it's Matthew McConaughey who is expected to win in that category. Spacey was a no-show. But, another win that I predicted is for Viola Davis and I'm glad that she won because I heard that she was great on her ABC show. She deserved it. For comedy, Uzo Aduba surprised us when she won the Best Comedy Actress category. She deserved it but I didn't predicted her win sine she is supporting and the other nominees are lead. I'm happy when Aduba went to stage and collected her trophy. Her reaction is priceless. Try to watch it on You Tube. Remember that she was able to beat Amy Poehler, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Julie Bowen and Edie Falco. For the Best Comedy Actor, William H. Macy won. It's a surprise. Also, he finally won since the switch of the show from drama to comedy for the awards show. But, since I already watched an episode of his show, I can say that he somehow deserved it. For Miniseries/Movie Actress, Frances McDormand won in which she made a classy fast walk to the stage and speech. Also, she promoted her HBO miniseries during her speech since it's going to be available on home video by next month. I expected Julia Roberts to win but McDormand was also good on Olive Kitteridge. For Miniseries/Movie Actor, Mark Ruffalo won for The Normal Heart. He finally earned a trophy for his performance on that wonderful HBO movie. Even though I predicted Thornton to win, I'm still happy that Ruffalo won. He was a no-show since he is currently filming the sequel of Now You See Me. Anyway, the Oscars is coming next month. But, first, we have to concentrate for BAFTA first. I might post my BAFTA prediction by next week.
